Disaster & Disability

This Disability Action Week (Saturday 25 November – Saturday 2 December) and International Day of People with Disability (Sunday 3 December) we are working with the community to increase their preparedness.

‘We are delivering free Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Workshops to empower people with a disability to complete their action plans to ensure they are ready for disasters,’ said Inclusion Advisory Committee Chair Councillor Peter Hodge.

‘P-CEPs are a growing suite of tools that enable people with a disability to make emergency preparedness plans that are tailored to their individual support needs.

‘Disability Action Week recognises the contributions people with disability make to our lives, families, workplaces, communities and to Queensland’s economy, and it’s vitally important these members of our community are well-prepared for whatever disasters may come our way,’ Councillor Hodge said.

The free workshops are:

  • 10.30am–12.30pm Monday 27 November at The Grove, Tableland Community Link, 11 Grove Street, Atherton. Book on 4091 7066 or admin@tclink.org.au.
  • 11.00am– 1.00pm Wednesday 6 December at The Hive, Disability Matters, 5 McConaghie Street Atherton. Book on 4235 7200. This was originally organised for Tuesday 28 November.

The P-CEP booklets were co-designed by The University of Sydney and people with a disability. Printing was supported by Get Ready funding.
