In the heart of our region, the Atherton Tablelands Information Centre offers a full range of services. Choose a souvenir from the local arts, crafts and produce, and join the monthly food safari (May–September).
The Tableland Regional Gallery, Old Post Office Gallery and Foyer Gallery showcase works of artists, potters, photographers and sculptors that capture the creative heart of the Tablelands. Take home your own piece of unique Tablelands art from one of the numerous studios and shops in the region.
Stop in at the Hou Wang Temple, the only original timber and iron Chinese temple in Australia. The temple was a place of worship for the substantial population of Chinese immigrants who lived in the area in the early 1900s.
The Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail is a dedicated recreational trail that winds along the decommissioned railway corridor from Hasties Swamp National Park south of Atherton, to McIver Street in Mareeba.
Birdwatch at Hasties Swamp National Park. This seasonal wetland is renowned for its diverse range of over 220 resident and migratory birds.
From the trail head at the bottom of Vernon Street, ride the track to the network of more than 50km of single trails in Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park. Dip into rocky gullies and clear creeks, climb forest-clad valleys and ridgelines and offer awe-inspiring views of the surrounding landscape.
Check out the art deco buildings in the main street. The Barron Valley Hotel was the Officers’ Mess during WWII and has a display of historical photographs.
