Free Safety Program for Seniors
Safety is everyone’s responsibility and Tablelands Regional Council is hosting a free safety session for over 55s.
‘Our Senior Safety Squad is a popular, multi-agency disaster preparedness education program that we developed with Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire Department, State Emergency Service, various government agencies and other not-for-profit and community groups,’ said Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Rod Marti.
‘The program supports seniors in preparing for, responding to and recovering from natural and other hazards.
‘Some of the hazards include storms, cyclones, floods, electrical safety and bushfires.
‘We’re holding the session at 9am–2pm Thursday 10 October at the Coordination Centre, 15 Vernon Street in Atherton.
‘Places are limited so register or 1300 362 242 by Tuesday 8 October,’ Mayor Marti said.
The event forms part of Get Ready Queensland Week (8-12 October), a time for Queenslanders to take steps to prepare their family and property against disaster events.
Lunch is provided.
The Senior Safety Squad Program is possible thanks to support from the Queensland Government’s Get Ready Queensland program. For more information, visit getready.qld.gov.au.
