Master Plan for Millaa Millaa

Tablelands Regional Council has approved a $25,000 community project request from the Millaa Millaa Progress Association for the development of a master plan for Millaa Millaa.

‘The funding will be to appoint an experienced consultant to prepare the master plan for Millaa Millaa and surrounds, including McHughs Lookout, the Waterfall Circuit and Mungali Creek areas,’ said Deputy Mayor Dave Bilney.

‘These areas really suffered during the closure of the Palmerston Highway and we need to help the community build greater resilience.

‘The plan will be an aspirational document — outlining long-term strategies and objectives for land use, recreation, tourism, transport, style, infrastructure, development and industry.

‘What we’ll end up with is a framework that will guide future investment and development in the Millaa Millaa area.

‘James Cook University’s Tropical Urbanism and Design Lab will be developing the master plan and they have plenty of experience in our region as they developed master plans for Ravenshoe and Malanda.

‘They’ll be working with the community and stakeholders on the development of the plan.

‘It’s a great outcome for the Millaa community and I congratulate the Millaa Millaa Progress Association on their foresight and dedication,’ Deputy Mayor Bilney said.
