The Community Revegetation Nursery grows native rainforest species for revegetation projects large and small. We are working to expand our propagation list to include species for other habitats/landforms.
The nursery opened on its current site in 1989 with the redeployment and retraining of logging industry personnel to the then-named Wet Tropics Tree Planting Scheme.
The dedication of staff and volunteers over these 30 years means that almost 900,000 plants have been grown, and 280ha planted for revegetation projects across the southern Atherton Tablelands, between Millaa Millaa and Tolga.
All of our seed is collected from wild sources and most are propagated when fresh.
Our customers generally purchase species for environmental revegetation projects including habitats for endangered Southern Cassowaries and iconic Lumholtz’s Tree-kangaroos. Other reasons for planting include windbreaks that also attract mammals, birds, butterflies and other insects.
The nursery operates 8am–4pm Tuesdays and Thursdays — May to October. Tuesdays only — November to April. Not open on public holidays.
Volunteers are welcome on Tuesdays and Thursdays year-round.
