Sand Available | Cyclone Jasper
The community is urged to prepare for the possibility of Cyclone Jasper crossing the North Queensland coast sometime tomorrow Wednesday 13 December 2023, and associated flooding over the subsequent days.
Act now to ensure your property is secured, and supplies and other emergency equipment are well stocked.
Check on your neighbours, particularly the elderly, impaired and those who do not speak English as a first language.
You may need to sandbags if you live or work in an area that floods.
Sandbags can be purchased from local suppliers and these businesses have indicated they currently have sandbags in stock:
- TGT in Tolga
- Ravenshoe Home Timber and Hardware
Some sandbags may be available at sand locations.
Bring a shovel to fill the bags.
Sand is available from:
- Atherton Twelfth Avenue near the reservoir and Vernon Street near the skate park.
- Malanda Showgrounds near the SES building.
- Mount Garnet at the SES building.
- Ravenshoe State School in the staff car park.
- Herberton near the Herberton Mining Centre.
Elderly people and those who are unable to fill sandbags can contact the State Emergency Service SES on 132 500 or via the SES app.
Call Triple Zero (000) for life-threatening emergencies.
The Local Disaster Management Group is monitoring the situation and will provide further advice.
