Sand for Sandbags Available
Heavy falls are likely to continue over Northeast Queensland this weekend, with possible intense falls.
Act now to ensure your property is secured, and supplies and other emergency equipment are well stocked.
Check on your neighbours, particularly the elderly, impaired and those who do not speak English as a first language.
You may need to sandbag if you live or work in an area that floods.
Sandbags can be purchased from local suppliers — call first to ensure they have some.
Sand for residential properties is available from:
- Atherton — car park next to the tennis court on Vernon Street.
- Malanda — Malanda Show Grounds next to the SES building.
- Ravenshoe — staff car park at Ravenshoe State Primary School.
Bring a shovel to fill the bags.
Elderly people and those who are unable to fill sandbags can contact the State Emergency Service SES on 132 500 or via the SES app.
Call Triple Zero (000) for life-threatening emergencies.
The Local Disaster Management Group is monitoring the situation and will provide further advice.
