Seniors’ Month

We will be celebration Queensland Seniors’ Month (Tuesday 1 – Thursday 31 October) with a free Age-Friendly Expo on Tuesday 15 October at Merriland Hall in Atherton and regional events throughout the month. This is part of our Age-Friendly Strategy.

Seniors Safety Squad

9am-2pm Thursday 10 October at the Coordination Centre in Atherton.

Seniors Safety Squad is a multi-agency disaster preparedness education program. It provides a focus on learning about natural hazards and disasters that occur in our region. It helps participants understand how TRC and other agencies respond to disasters.

Participants will gain knowledge on building their capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster events, as part of a series of interactive and fun activities.

Pensioner Pre-Cyclone Clean Up

If you receive an age or disability pension and are in a kerbside collection area we’ll remove green waste, iron and general yard debris as a part of our free pre-cyclone clean up. White goods, furniture, household rubbish, car bodies and tyres are not eligible for collection.

Register at trc.qld.gov.au/cyclone-cleanup or 1300 362 242 by Friday 25 October. Collections will begin in early November.

Age-Friendly Expo

9am–1pm Tuesday 15 October at Merriland Hall in Atherton.

The free Age-Friendly Expo will include free health checks, aged care planning information and ageing support services. Learn from experts on how to age well, including legal and health services and providers, volunteering and recreation organisations. Visit one of the many local community organisations and recreational clubs at their stalls. Supporting families through the ageing process? Hear from those with lived experiences and talk to support organisations. It’s also an opportunity to come together and connect, celebrating the essential roles that older people play in our communities.
