A driveway is a vehicular crossing that provides safe and reasonable access to a property. The crossover is the section of the driveway that crosses the verge/footpath from the kerb/road edge to the property boundary.
The property owner is responsible for all costs, the standard of construction and all maintenance of the driveway and crossover. Modification of the kerb and channel, if required, is considered part of the driveway construction.
The online application will assess if the driveway construction is accepted by TRC or requires assessment.
To complete the application you will need to provide:
- Three photos — one of the front of the property from across the road, one to the left of the driveway and 2m back from the kerb, and one to the right of the driveway and 2m back from the kerb. These photos show the proximity of vegetation, power poles and other infrastructure to the proposed driveway location.
- An overhead site plan showing the driveway location in relation to the road and the dwelling/property. Google Earth and Queensland Globe images are suitable.
- Details on the design of the driveway/crossover. You will also need to indicate if the driveway is being constructed to Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Council’s standards — S1015 — Access Crossovers, S1105G — Rural Allotment Access or S1105G — Rural Allotment Access. If it doesn’t meet these standards, you will need to provide a detailed design drawing.
- Public liability insurance for $20M with TRC listed as an interested party.
