There are limitations and restrictions on the number and types of animals that can be kept in different areas. There are different registration fees and limits to the number of dogs permitted on the size of a property. These are outlined in Subordinate Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management). The restrictions take into account the size and density of the area, type of animal, and potential impacts on the surrounding community. Permits are assessed on a case-by-case basis and require justification for application and inspections. There is a non-refundable application fee and there is no guarantee the permit will be approved.
