Structural Issues with Patrick English Pavilion

The immediate future of the Patrick English Pavilion in Malanda is uncertain after a routine structural assessment identified serious structural issues.

‘The engineer has expressed serious concern over the structural integrity of the pavilion, the most severe being the failure of the timber curved trusses,’ said Deputy Mayor Dave Bilney.

‘We’re still waiting on the final report that will include details of the extent of the issues, but the bottom line is the pavilion is not safe for use at this stage.

‘We won’t risk the health and wellbeing of our community.

‘We are working with people and organisations who have booked the hall to find alternative venues or dates, and we’ll share more information as it comes to hand,’ Deputy Mayor Bilney said.
