Lessons Learnt from Disaster Operations

Recommendations from the bushfire and Tropical Cyclone Jasper debriefs were accepted. The recommendations include improvements to the Guardian incident management system and TRC processes, feedback on the new Australian Warning System, and additional and ongoing training and exercises.

These advisory committee meeting minutes were received and noted:

These recommendations from the advisory committee meetings were endorsed:

Quotes be sought to automate the front door of the Malanda Falls Visitor Centre to improve accessibility.
New landholders in rural and rural residential areas will receive information about weeds in the region.
Weed control during the composting process at transfer stations will be reviewed.

Support for Mount Garnet State School

Councillors endorsed the officer’s recommendation to provide a one-off payment of $5831.10 including GST to Mount Garnet State School, to transport students to the Malanda Pool for swimming lessons while the Mount Garnet Pool is unavailable.

Financial Statement

Operating revenue and expenditure continue to be on target.

After Hours Provider

A report investigating options for the provision of after-hours services by other than external contractors was received and noted. A further report on the performance of the after-hours service provider will be presented at the June ordinary Council meeting.

Tinaroo Foreshore Footpaths

Costs for interconnecting footpaths on the Tinaroo foreshore will be considered in the 2024–25 capital budget.

Alternative Access

The 2014 agreement with Alan and Beris Bragg regarding alternative access to their Cook Street property will be honoured.

Tolga Industrial Estate

Negotiations will commence with Tolga Industrial Estate landowners based on the draft Tolga Industrial Estate Proposed Expansion — Expansion Agreement.
